Policy and Strategy
Universities, institutions and governments worldwide continue to recognise the importance of Knowledge Transfer and to establish offices and systems to manage and support this activity.
We can help develop appropriate Policies and strategies to underpin the knowledge transfer operations. For example, policies for IP ownership and Revenue Sharing, or use of Open Source software; and strategies for the management and exploitation of research results, without compromising scientific dissemination and publication.
Operations, Systems and Structures
Whilst policies and strategies are the basic foundations the means of effective delivery depends on the operational systems and structures.
We can help establish appropriate systems, structures and procedures for the management of the Knowledge Transfer Process.
We can also undertake the practical management and commercialisation of specific research results or IP.
Business Development/Commercialising Research
We can help to commercialise specific research results/IP or new technologies. These can cover a range of sectors, although we have particular expertise in the physical sciences, ICT and software sectors.
We can help develop the “Knowledge Transfer Package”, which is often more than just the IP, the commercialisation strategy (licensing, spin-out, etc) and roadmap, and support the whole process.
Opportunity Reviews and IP Audits
We undertake IP Audits and/or Opportunity reviews – particularly for universities and research institutions in the ICT sector. These can sometimes unearth immediate commercialisation opportunities, but more often they identify “hot spots” which can be monitored, raise awareness, and are the start of a relationship between the KT Office and the research group.
Training and Development
We organise and run, often in collaboration with partner companies, a range of training courses, which can be customised. These cover all the basic elements of knowledge transfer, from basic IP awareness for researchers to advanced licensing.
With 25 years experience as a proposal evaluator and project reviewer for the European Commission, training now also includes workshops on addressing IP, Impact and other Innovation related aspects in Horizon 2020, for proposal writers and project managers.
ICT Research Programme and Project Evaluation and Review
With a strong background in ICT and IPR Exploitation, and operating at the research-industry interface, we can provide independent expert advice to funders on ICT project and programme evaluation, review and on-going project monitoring, and strategic directions for research
