We have worked with a large number of different clients on a range of projects. Click left for examples of some typical projects
Universities, institutions and governments worldwide continue to recognise the importance of Knowledge Transfer and to establish offices and systems to manage and support this activity.
We have helped a number of organisations in Japan, Eastern Europe and the UK to establish appropriate Policies; for example, IP ownership and revenue sharing; use of Open Source software; etc.
We have helped organisations develop appropriate strategies for the management of research results, for example, to prevent “leakage” of IP (through pre-publication reviews); to capture information (through good practice in research management and use of lab notebooks); to raise awareness of IP among researchers; strategies for Open Innovation and “openness” (open standards, open access, open source, etc)
Policies and strategies are the basic foundations for effective Knowledge Transfer, but the means of effective delivery depend on the operational systems and structures.
We have helped organisations to establish appropriate systems, structures and procedures for the management of the Knowledge Transfer Process – from pre-disclosure IP awareness; disclosure of invention; assessment of IP strength and protection, technology and market opportunities; commercialisation strategies and roadmaps; and implementation plans.
As well as helping to establish the infrastructure and processes, we have also helped with its implementation and have undertaken many of the individual activities for specific projects and technologies.
We have organised, or contributed to, a range of seminars and training courses. Some examples are given below:
Basic IP Awareness for researchers
Introduction to Intellectual Property
The use of Patent Information for researchers
The strategic use of patent information in Business
Commercial Opportunity Assessment of Research Results
Finding Partners (marketing research results)
Fundamentals of Licensing
Advanced Licensing
International IP Commercialisation
IPR and ICT – Commercialisation of software research
Open Innovation
We have undertaken several IP Audits and Opportunity reviews for universities and research institutions – particularly for Computing and Software.
Undertaking such reviews requires an awareness of the technology, an understanding of market dynamics, and an understanding of what motivates researchers (usually publication, rather than commercialisation!).
IP Audits and Opportunity Reviews can sometimes unearth immediate commercialisation opportunities, but more often they identify “hot spots” which can be monitored, raise awareness, and are the start of a relationship between the KT Office and the research group.
We have worked on a variety of business development assignments for specific research results/IP or new technologies. These cover a range of sectors, although we have particular expertise in the physical sciences, ICT, electronics and software sectors.
We have also worked with both research and industry clients to facilitate collaborative projects.
With a strong background and expertise in ICT, Innovation and IPR Exploitation, we provide independent expert advice to the European Commission and others for project and programme evaluation, review and on-going project monitoring.
